MEET THE BAND

Introducing: Beyond The Generations

Marc and Melanie Le Sage of Beyond The Generations are a singer-songwriter father-daughter duo from the UK, creating their own brand of Country Folk music. Influenced by a wide range of genres spanning generations, their music draws inspiration from the emotions and sentiments from the world around: from country to blues with an element of easy listening, there is enough for everyone. They are direct descendants of the jazz pianist, vibraphonist, composer and creative genius, Bill Le Sage.

Origins

The creative jazz musician Bill Le Sage, proved to have a profound musical influence on both his son and subsequently his granddaughter.

Marc formed his first band, called Arpeggio, with two friends from school before it underwent changes in band members and the name was changed to Earthwood. Made up of five band members, the rock band played mainly covers with some originals in various pubs and clubs around London such as 'The Red Lion' in Brentford and 'The John Bull' in Chiswick (now renamed to 'The Gunnersbury'). While the band gradually split after several years, Marc continued to play and write, recently also moving into full music production and mixing.

Melanie, inspired by her pianist grandfather, took up piano aged 10 following a classical training yet inspired by her jazz roots. The first full lyric and song that she wrote while at university featured on their debut album; she also started teaching piano around the same time.

Behind the band name: 'Beyond The Generations'

Family is a pretty strong part of our lives. Starting out as 'The Generations', the duo decided to change the name to 'Beyond The Generations'.

Not only does it represent the two generations of this father and daughter duo, but it aims to pays homage to the generations of musicians that came before and the inspiration of renowned jazz musician and composer Bill Le Sage (read more on Wikipedia).

Music has been in the family for a number of generations, with drummers, guitarists, bassists, pianists, vibraphonist and composer; and so it felt only fitting to ensure the continued succession of music within the name itself.
