Introducing "Behind The Beat"

Introducing Behind The Beat by Beyond The Generations music duo

There is a beautiful harmony that emerges when people come together to create something unique. It’s a testament to the strength of shared dreams and passions that can transcend and go beyond the generations.

As we launch our Behind The Beat blog series, we invite you to step into our world where music flows through our veins, and every note or lyric we create carries a piece of our heart with it.  We want to open the doors and keys to our musical world, where you’ll discover the essence of our collaborations and, of course, our musical journey. We will delve into the stories behind our songs and the creative process that shapes our music. You will also get to know the instruments that have become an integral part of our journey. From the cosy confines of our home studio to the creative moments of our songwriting, we will reveal what it’s like to be both family and musical partners in rhyme. Over the coming blogs, we will be sharing the personal stories behind each guitar strummed, every key played, lyric written and, of course, you’ll be the first to hear about our upcoming projects.

So, how did it all begin?

Would you believe me if I said, on a dark desert highway?

It may be a cliche to say that music has been an intrinsic part of our lives independently of each other; for Marc, my dad, I can’t remember him not playing one of his guitars, while for me I have always sung and worked on harmonising with songs on the radio, while playing the piano, or writing lyrics of some kind. Yet, when we came together, it is the song “Hotel California” by the Eagles that was a defining song for us.  Dad playing the melody on his guitar one warm summer day while sitting in the garden, and I just chimed in with the singing. Our repertoire expanded and we have been jamming ever since.

A fairly natural progression into songwriting and collaboration followed. Dad has always been tinkering with one new melody or another on his guitar, and the same for me on the piano or singing. We both receive random lyrics inspiration that will regularly pop into our head, and we went through a period of jamming and working on new lyrics together. It felt like a shame to not commit the many songs that we wrote to paper, so to speak, or a recording, so we began the process of building out our home music studio.

Join us as we share the details of our musical odyssey, exploring the bonds that tie us together, the inspiration that fuels our creativity, and the dreams that continue to drive us forward.

Welcome to our world.
